COPPA Compliance Statement

1. What is COPPA

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a U.S. law that protects the personal information of children under 13 online. FutureMinds is for children aged 9 to 16, so part of our audience is covered by COPPA and part is above it.

Rather than treat that as two different products, we apply the same protections to every child profile. The app's two content bands are drawn at 9–12 and 13–16 — deliberately split on COPPA's thirteenth-birthday line, so the age band a child sits in and the data rules that apply to them are always the same boundary.

2. Our commitment

FutureMinds is built parent-first: a parent or legal guardian always creates and controls the account, not the child.

3. How FutureMinds is designed for COPPA compliance

• Only a parent/legal guardian can create an account, using their own email and password. Children never register or log in independently.
• Child profiles are created and fully managed by the parent, and stored as records under the parent's own account.
• We collect only what's needed to personalize learning: a first name or nickname, an age, and an optional gender selection used solely to pick a visual color theme.
• No advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party tracking or crash-reporting services are integrated into the app at all. We do not run behavioral advertising to children.
• We do not sell children's personal information.
• Access to a child's data is restricted to their parent's authenticated account, enforced by backend security rules.
• The one level that records a child's voice keeps the recording on the device and deletes it when the level ends. It is never uploaded.
• There is no way for a child to message anyone, post anything, or see another user.
• Parents can review, edit, or request deletion of their child's data at any time, and can delete the entire account from within the app.

4. Parental gate and consent

Before any child profile can be created, the parent must complete their own account sign-up with their own email and password, behind a parental gate — a challenge designed to be beyond a young child, so that a child cannot create a profile or reach the parent area alone. The same gate stands in front of the purchase screen.

We describe this as a parental gate rather than as verifiable parental consent. The two are not the same thing under COPPA, and which mechanism this product requires is a question we are seeking a legal opinion on before launch. This section will be updated with the answer.

5. Third-party service providers

We use Firebase (Google Cloud) for authentication and data storage. Firebase does not receive any child data beyond what's needed to operate the app on our behalf, and is not permitted to use it for its own purposes.

If — and only if — a parent asks for the weekly summary email, we use Resend to send it. That email names each child by first name and says what they explored that week, so Resend handles that information as our processor. It is asked for when the account is created, it can be switched off at any time in the parent area or from the link in any email, and a family who has not asked for it sends nothing to Resend at all.

The app also contacts Expo's update service each time it starts, to ask whether a newer version exists. That request carries the device's IP address and build identifiers and nothing about a child — it happens before anyone signs in, and no child information is involved.

None of these providers may use a child's information for its own purposes, and no other third party receives it.

6. Your rights as a parent

You can, at any time: review the personal information we've collected about your child; request that it be corrected or deleted; and refuse further collection or use of your child's information. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.

8. Who operates FutureMinds

FutureMinds is operated by WISESOFT LLC. It is the only operator collecting or maintaining personal information from children through the app, and it can be reached at:
